Reine des Violettes (OGR)

Aptly named “Queen of the Violets,” this rose is one of the most purple roses to be found. Flowers open to a mauve color that quickly deepens to a purple-pink and have a strong, but not overpowering, fragrance. After the first spring bloom, rebloom is good, although the number of flowers decreases. Even a single bloom makes this rose worth having for it is quite unique and truly beautiful. This thornless rose grows like the Bourbons but bears Gallica-like flat blooms of a muted cerise lilac. Reine des Violettes makes a chunky bush about five feet square with glossy leaves which require hard pruning in early spring to keep it compact.
